Premier Piano Course Performance 1b (Alfred's Premier Piano Course) ReviewI use this book in conjunction with the Premier Piano Course Lesson Book 1b when I teach, and I've found it to be a winning combination. While the lesson book does a wonderful job of introducing concepts, the performance book is where students get to expand their musical prowess. The selections in the performance book make use of the concepts learned in the lesson book, but in new and interesting ways.
I've been very pleased with the musicality of the pieces in this book. While being very accessible to beginning students, they're not at all boring. There's a great deal of musical interest and variety, and my students tend to be very motivated by the pieces in this book. I particularly like "Fourth Grade Band" with its bouncy march-like rhythms, "Ancient Dance" with its sophisticated harmonies, and "When the Saints Go Marching In" with its jazzy sounds.
