Yamaha MO8 88 Key Music Production Synthesizer ReviewThe keyboard action is the best I've ever played and the quality of the programs, or sounds, is outstanding. I got my MO88 two months ago and still have not explored all of the programs ("sounds") available, but then again, I'm fairly lazy. There are the layers and splits and the General MIDI menu of sounds found on nearly every keyboard made in the last 20 years. Very fun are the sequence programs, where simply holding down a key activates a factory-made repeating rhythm pattern. The bass in these programs is already split to the lower keyboard, with the upper keyboard containing an instrument to solo with. In other words, you can play a simple bass figure with the left-hand and then solo with the right, all while a rich sound template of percussion and sometimes other sounds swirl around you. These sequence programs are of all genres - blues, latin, bebop, jazz, hip-hop, rap, funk, hard rock, you name it - and also make the MO88 an excellent tool for practicing soloing while also honing your abilities to play in time and on the beat. In addition, the keyboard itself is lightweight for an 88-weighted key model, a good thing especially for performing musicians like myself who need to transport the MO88 to gigs.
